Gananz - by Jules

"Gananz" is a cunningly deceptive old farmhouse. There’s far more home than you could ever imagine behind its unassuming doorway and what’s here is a wonderful blend of old and new.

The original features include rustic stone archways wooden ceiling beams and mosaic floor tiles. Yet a more recent extension of the original home creates modern space a generously proportioned kitchen and dining space and that all important large private pool and terrace". Jules

It’s from the stone terrace of this Gozo holiday farmhouse that you’ll enjoy unhindered views of the surrounding hills. Yet this scenic spot is just a mile from Gozo’s capital Victoria.

A charming holiday home recommended for large families and groups"

PROPERTY DETAILS

Ground floor:

Step into the house and you’re straight into the rustic lounge area with its characterful stone arches. A little less period but no less welcome is the solid mahogany bar with stools. There is also a log burner which makes Ta Lieni a cosy retreat during the milder winter months. You’ll find cable TV a DVD player and Wi-Fi here too for when the pool’s a bit on the chilly side.

Stone arches lead down a long corridor into the lengthy farmhouse kitchen. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped with a breakfast bar and stools. A small room behind the kitchen houses a downstairs toilet and washing machine.

Beside the patio doors that lead to the spacious pool terrace, there’s a large farmhouse table. It’s perfect for the whole household to gather for hearty meals and conversation.

Bedrooms 1 and 2 are both on the ground floor. Both are comfortably furnished with attractive wooden double beds and en-suite shower rooms.

First floor:

The stone stairs from the lounge lead you to a landing that features old original tiles and leads to this Gozo holiday farmhouse’s three remaining bedrooms.

Bedroom 3 has a charming wooden four poster bed and a room enhanced by traditional floor tiles.

Bedroom 4 is a twin room with en-suite shower.

Bedroom 5 has a double bed also with en-suite facilities.

Outdoors:

Pretty garden walls crafted from local stone frame the patio and help create a private sanctuary. You’ll enjoy open views of the surrounding hills including Tal Gordan an iconic flat-topped hill with a lighthouse that’s a popular sightseeing spot and a rewarding ramble.

The patio’s garden dining-furniture helps you enjoy every moment of sun while a handy wooden awning provides shade during the hottest part of the day.

Location

Ghasri

The village of Ghasri sits amongst the fields and valleys of rural Gozo yet is within a mile of Victoria’s commanding citadel and close to one of the best swimming spots on the island. From Ta Lieni’s terrace you’ll easily be able to identify Tal Gordan a flat topped hill with an iconic lighthouse. It’s a must for ramblers.

From Ghasri village square a road leads to the fabulous valley of Wied l-Ghasri 2.3km away from your Gozo holiday farmhouse. The Wied l-Ghasri area is a marvellous place for country walks or rewarding cycle rides especially in winter and spring. The valley ends at the sea wedged between high cliffs where a secluded inlet makes an ideal spot for swimming snorkelling and together with the sea surrounding it a very popular spot for diving.

On the way be sure to stop at the charming old chapel dedicated to the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The two shallow bays of Xwejni and Qbajjar are both 4.1 Km away. Next to each other they have small pebbly beaches and rocky stretches that lead to clear blue water.

Excellent for swimming they are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike and are popular with divers especially beginners. You’ll also find a few fishing boats here and a couple of bars and restaurants on the sea front.

The 308 bus will bring you to the centre of Victoria where you will find a wide range of shops cafes bars and restaurants - and a wealth of history.

The feast of Ghasri is celebrated on the first or second Sunday in June and is dedicated to Corpus Christi. Victoria has two big feasts one in the third week of July and the other on 15 August.
