I’d been told that viewing this penthouse was ‘essential’. I was thinking there was a little over-exaggeration going on until I revisited the Il Vigneto suite (where we already have 6 wonderful Gozo holiday farmhouses) and took the private elevator to the 3rd floor—Wow.
I stood on the wide marble staircase and opened the door to find a hugely impressive living space. Exceptionally designed and furnished the open plan layout puts everything you need for pleasure and comfort within easy reach.
If I was impressed by the first level of this Gozo holiday apartment the next level was something else. The landing has terrace doors running its length. Step through and you’ll find yourself on a spectacular roof terrace quite unlike anything else I’ve seen on Gozo. But it works – and how well it works! Surrounded by peaceful countryside views from up here this tranquil location promises hours of uninterrupted relaxation.
Spacious the roof terrace is exquisitely furnished with rattan garden furniture and a state of the art BBQ. There’s no need for a pool either. Instead relax in the 6 seater Jacuzzi enjoy a glass of wine and let lunch slowly sizzle.
Back inside you’ll find the third bedroom and - another touch I love - a small drinks fridge. Because when you’re enjoying life up high you don’t want to traipse down to the kitchen for a refill. Mind you the elevator will do the job for you – the team had a good laugh at my expense when they realised I’d used the stairs.
Vermentino surprised me. It’s different class. If your idea of a penthouse holiday apartment is 20 storeys high surrounded by honking horns then I’d love you to experience this.
The first level houses two bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Bedroom 1 has twin beds.
Bedroom 2 has a double bed and en-suite shower.
Second level
Bedroom 3’s terrace doors open out onto the roof terrace – perfect for an evening Jacuzzi by candlelight. The bedroom has a double bed plus with an en-suite shower and of course the handy mini fridge.
On the same level you will also find spacious Bedroom 4 with twin beds and an en-suite shower room. Set at the front of the house the room has fabulous countryside and sea views through its glass terrace doors. This room is also perfect for escaping the heat of the sun whilst still enjoying the rooftop atmosphere.
First level
Vermentino’s first level offers lots of spacious and comfortable open plan living. The dining area and kitchen include a breakfast bar for casual dining. At the other extreme make full use of the dining area by asking one of Il Vigneto’s chefs to come and cook a menu of your choice. Perfect for when you fancy a night off from cooking and an experience not to be missed.

The living area has stylish furnishings a 40” LCD TV with cable and a wood stove.
Xaghra
Xaghra’s village square just a 10 minute stroll from your Gozo holiday home has a cosmopolitan range of restaurants and a buzzing café atmosphere. It’s a great place for a hearty meal or a light snack and just as good for people watching. It is also within a short distance of the island’s main summer resort of Marsalforn with its excellent swimming spots restaurants bars and bustling summer crowds. Marsalforn is 1.2km from Xaghra. Xwejni Bay is 3.3km away.
Ix-Xwejni Bay and Qbajjar Bay are both easily reached through Marsalforn or i|-{ebbu!. The two shallow bays are right next to each other with small pebbly beaches and rocky stretches leading into clear blue water. Locals and visitors alike enjoy the bays’ excellent swimming and there’s good diving to be had especially for beginners. A few fishing boats are based here too and there are a couple of bars and restaurants on the sea front.
Xaghra is also home to unique prehistoric temples which are the oldest standing structures in the world. Together with the burial grounds close by they’re a magnet for historians and archaeologists from all over the world.
A local food store is just 2 minutes’ walk away and a good spot to top up provisions or catch service 322 for Victoria if you want a bigger range of shops.
Also nearby is Ramla the island’s most beautiful and largest sandy beach. It’s a 20 minute walk but (JULES CAUTION) the walk back is a steep one and it’s all uphill.
