Ghar Ilma V - by Jules

“Similar to its sister, Ghar Ilma 4, it’s hard to find words that reflect the huge impression of this home and its position. Down a secluded entrance off the road, you will open the outer door to reveal panoramic countryside views stretched for miles. Stone stairs bring you down to the pool terrace. An abundance of private space, views, and tranquillity. The house is gifted with traditional character and stone arches throughout. Furnished to a high standard with period style and elegance, the rooms are generous in every way. If your idea of Mediterranean bliss is a period rural retreat with fabulous views, charm and tranquillity, this is for you. It’s hard to believe vibrant Victoria is only minutes away” JULES

Property Description:

From the pool terrace, a few stone steps bring you to double doors to enter Ghar Ilma. Stepping into a picture of traditional limestone archways you are in the living and dining area. A stone archway leads to a galley type kitchen. Light is expanded by a counter high, stone arch, at the other end, ideal for use as a serving space.

Bedrooms 1 and 2 are on the ground floor, leading off the living area. Both are spacious, elegantly furnished, with twin beds. Bedroom 1 has en-suite shower room and Bedroom 2 has a separate shower room adjacent to the living area.

The master bedroom is located on the 1st floor – accessed either by a slim internal staircase from the kitchen or by a wide external stone staircase (the later always my preferred option). This master bedroom is deserved of its title. A grand spacious room, elegantly and traditionally furnished to a high standard. There is a large bathroom en-suite.

SANTA LUCIA

Santa Lucia is a hamlet and suburb of Kercem. It takes its name from the old chapel dedicated to Saint Lucy dating back to 1575. Santa Lucia is a small and secluded village surrounded by glorious countryside where you will find many walks. The area is still one of the greenest on Gozo. Close by you will forget this rural feel as Victoria is minutes away (1.3km), either by car or bus. There are four bus stops in Saint Lucia and frequent hourly buses to Victoria where you can access the rest of the island by bus if desirable. Buses start at 5.42 and run until 10.42.

The nearest supermarket is on the road to Victoria and can be reached in 1 Km from the farmhouse. In Victoria itself you will find many cars, shops, cafés and restaurants.

The closest cafe, bar and restaurant can be found the Santa Lucia Boutique hotel, in 800m. Other cafes, restaurants and bars can be found in neighbouring San Lawrenz and Gharb in 2.8km.

In the nearby resort of Xlendi, in 3.2km, you will find a lively atmosphere and large choice of local eateries and bars. There is also a small beach, boat hire and is popular for swimming and diving.

NEARBY BEACHES

The farmhouse is a short drive from a number of beaches. Dwerja Bay is 4.6km. The stunning geography of the area was created thousands of years ago when two limestones collapsed, forming the Azure window. Although since collapsed into the sea, it featured in several films, including Clash of the Titans (1981). The site remains popular today, particularly with divers. Dwejra bay has dramatic seascapes and a rocky shoreline renowned for its geology, wildlife, and fascinating underwater scenery.

Head east for 5.6km and you will find Gozo’s second resort, Marsalforn. It has a small beach and several bays, including Qbajjar Bay Beach. The main bay is surrounded by cafes, bars and thriving restaurants.
