La Rustica - by Jules

“Well this is just lovely. A chunky, imposing front door offers litle hint of what lies beyond, yet opens into a space of vaulted ceilings, four poster beds and, from the pool terrace, one of the best views of Gozo’s Cittadella you’ll find on the island.

“The name sums La Rustica up perfectly. It feels like a traditional Gozo holiday farmhouse, straight from the pages of a period homes magazine. Yet whilst this has been extensively refurbished (the outer walls are original though), the delicate contemporary touches never shatter the feeling of tradition, and do plenty to make this feel like an exciting, inviting Gozo holiday home.

“The atrium-style reception is a place of cool calm. Head towards the light (past the kitchen and its freestanding island unit) and you’ll find arched terrace windows and the pool beyond, fringed by two palm trees. These look as though they’ve deliberately chosen as the ideal picture frame – and what a picture. There between them sits the Gozitan countryside, leading to off to a horizon that contains Victoria and its citadel. It really is spectacular.

“The surprises don’t stop there. You’ll find unique charm around every corner of this Gozo villa. But I won’t spoil it for you – come and see it for yourself.” Jules

Property Description

Ground floor:

Behind that hefty front door you’ll find stone ceiling arches leading you to the sort of reception area/atrium you might expect to find in a traditional Gozitan nobleman’s house.
From it, wooden stairs and wrought iron railings lead you to the first floor.

The kitchen sits (appropriately) in the centre of the ground floor. Its wooden doors and local slate tile work surfaces enhance the rustic feel, while the freestanding island unit provides plenty of space to cook and prep, or simply gather around over a glass of wine and enjoy a good chat.

Elsewhere on the ground floor you’ll find a grand dining area with antique table and chairs; a comfy lounge (with flat-screen TV and Wi-Fi) that overlooks the pool; and an en suite bathroom with marble antique finish.

Bedroom 1 is location on the ground floor with twin beds and an ensuite bathroom.

First Floor:

Bedroom 2 is at the top of the stairs. It’s spacious with twin beds and ensuite shower. The solid wooden furniture and original antique tiles add to the classic rustic feel.

Bedroom 3 has a wrought iron double bed. Again, the room is spacious with an antique feel fuelled by oak ceiling beams and feature shelves cut into the stone. There is an en suite shower room.

Bedroom 4 is the master bedroom with the emphasis on ‘master’. A real treat, this room is flooded with light from 2 large arched terrace doors that lead onto a private terrace balcony. It’s so gorgeous up here – with wonderful views of the citadel and surrounding countryside – that you might never want to come down.

Inside, the bedroom itself features a solid wooden four-poster bed, antique local tiles, and an en suite.

Ground floor 1 bedroom with twin beds that can be pushed together to make a double.
First floor 2 x double bedrooms both with en-suite plus one bedroom with twin beds (that cannot be pushed together

Ground floor living area with kitchen and dining overlooking the pool

Outdoors:

The pool and terrace make for a peaceful, private retreat with some of the most magnificent views on the island. And when you’re not gazing out towards the horizon, you’ll find the sunbeds and outside dining furniture make this the perfect spot to enjoy a BBQ.

Location

There’s a real buzz about Xaghra’s village square. Its cosmopolitan range of restaurants and cafés are great for a hearty meal or a light snack, and just as good for people-watching. The town (and your Gozo villa) is little more than a kilometre from the island’s main summer resort of Marsalforn, with its excellent swimming spots, restaurants, bars, and bustling summer crowds.

Ix-Xwejni Bay and Qbajjar Bay are both easily reached through Marsalforn or iż-Żebbuġ. The two shallow bays are right next to each other, with small pebbly beaches and rocky stretches leading into clear blue water. Both offer excellent swimming and good diving, especially for beginners.
Xaghra is also home to the unique Ggantija prehistoric temples, the oldest standing structures in the world. Together with the burial grounds close by, they’re a magnet for historians and archaeologists from all over the world.

Your Gozo villa is just 5 minutes from the nearest bus stop. Catch service 322 for Victoria and other villages.
