As Air Malta announces its decision to scrap its Manchester route, we explore how, if Manchester is your local airport, you can still enjoy your Gozo holiday.
Just before Christmas, Air Malta announced it would be ceasing its Malta – Manchester route by summer 2017. This, it said, was a cost-cutting measure it should have carried out “years ago”. Charming.
All of which may be good for Air Malta’s coffers, but how much does the move reduce your options if you’re planning a Gozo holiday this year? Happily, there are still plenty of carriers to choose from – and most are towards the budget end of the market (which may help to explain Air Malta’s decision).
Direct flights from Manchester to Malta are still available from:
Easyjet
Jet2.com
Ryanair
Thomas Cook Airlines
While indirect flights (should you feel like an hour’s stopover in London, Frankfurt etc) are available from almost a dozen more operators.
The loss of the Air Malta route has caused some consternation amongst Maltese and Gozitan hoteliers and restaurateurs, but we don’t think it should prove too much of a pain (flight time, choice or cost-wise) for your Gozo holiday.
