Pergola 6 - by Jules

Wow! We’d only reached the foot of the external stone stairway that leads from the private road to the entrance but already the view was breathtaking.

We were standing on a large pool terrace surrounded by blissful Mediterranean gardens with lush greenery and olive trees. Beyond the Pergla valley feels like an extension of the garden – as though it’s been placed there purely for your enjoyment.

The valley leads to the tranquil Ghajn Barrani Bay where sparkly blue waters glisten peacefully. A hand glider soared just beyond the cliff edge. I was about to put it on my ‘things to do in Gozo’ list until Doris this farmhouse’s owner reminded me that even being on the 3rd floor of a hotel makes me giddy.

Back to the house. You enter through a long kitchen where the farmhouse conversion respectfully enhances the original stone features and beams. There’s a large wooden dining table here too and beyond a lounge. Each bedroom has its own character and charm and I certainly felt an overall feeling of airy space and comfort about this Gozo holiday farmhouse.

Pergola leaves a lasting impression. If you’re holidaying on Gozo in search of peace and relaxation this is your Nirvana.

Ground floor

Bedroom 1 is the master bedroom. Full of period character and charm it boats an antique-style four poster bed and en-suite shower room.

Bedroom 2 has a double and a single bed again with a bathroom en-suite.

Lower level

Off the hall are the remaining 4 bedrooms.

Bedroom 3 5 & 6 have double beds with en-suite showers.

Bedroom 4 has twin beds and an en-suite shower.

Pergola 6 has an appealingly topsy-turvy layout. Although you can enter the farmhouse at street level here the main accommodation is on the lower pool level.

Ground floor

On this floor you’ll find a private garden terrace with more breathtaking views of the valley. Fringed with garden plants and shrubs this terrace makes a peaceful escape and a wonderful place to soak up the sunshine and views.

Lower level

You can reach the main body of the kirk by steps from the ground floor terrace or via the stone stair from the street which leads to a kidney-shaped pool surrounded by garden olive trees and miles of uninterrupted scenery.

Through the main door you arrive in a cosy farmhouse kitchen with a table to seat 12 guests. The long combined living space leads into a comfortable lounge area.

The main family bathroom is also on this floor.

Behind the lounge sits the hall the light streaming through its terrace doors and offering glimpses of the views beyond.

The pool is surrounded by spacious gardens colourful shrubs and the beautiful valley landscape. At 10m x 5m the pool is a good size and includes a Jacuzzi. There is also an outside shower for convenience.

The outside space of Pergola is a mini paradise that makes dining at any time of day a pure delight. It offers endless opportunity to relax and leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life well and truly behind.
